Ah, Halloween. The night where kids can walk the streets wearing age-inappropriate costumes and demand candy from strangers with impunity. Say what you will about American traditions taking over Australia blah blah, I for one am enjoying seeing my neighbourhood get into the spirit with all sorts of crazy house decorations. Although in some cases, it’s hard to tell whether the house has been decorated for Halloween or is just one cobweb away from dereliction (#Sydneypropertyprices), but there’s definitely a fun vibe in the air.

Who remembers Mean Girls? Not your personal brush with bullying, but the most excellent 2004 film starring Lindsay Lohan before she went cray-cray. You know the line, ‘On Wednesdays we wear pink’? Well on Wednesdays I eat Vietnamese noodle salad from a place called Eat Fuh, becuase a) it’s totally delicious, b) there’s a stall at the markets I go to, c) when I like a dish I tend to order it obsessively at every possible opportunity, and d) it really is totally delicious. So Wednesday is markets day and noodle salad day, a highlight of my culinary week: sesame chicken with vermicelli noodles, veggies, herbs and lots of chilli… Yum.

So when did it become October? I mean seriously, one second it was September and Spring was just, well, springing – then suddenly the weather got hot. Like, REALLY hot. Summer hot. And I wasn’t quite prepared for it.

Not that I’m complaining. Because along with the sudden burst of Pass Me The Fake Tan weather, has come an onslaught of beautiful summer fruit. Sorry, winter fruit, it’s been great and all, but my true love has returned so now I’d prefer it if you weren’t all awkward about it and just beat a hasty retreat, k?
